What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle hands-on therapy that works with the body’s natural ability to balance, restore and heal itself, as well as helping to reduce stress and build underlying energy.

Using light touch, craniosacral therapists are trained to listen to the body, helping it to shift into a deep healing state, where it can safely process and naturally release any patterns of stress, tension, and pain.

Who can it help?

Craniosacral therapy is light and non-invasive, which makes it suitable for everyone from babies to the elderly. Through light touch, craniosacral therapists listen to your body in much the same way that a counsellor might listen to your words. Your body responds to this type of touch by listening to itself, and begins to unwind and release any held patterns of strain and tension.

As it works with the whole person, craniosacral therapy can bring about changes at the physical, emotional and spiritual level. If you'd like to know if it could help you, please get in touch - I offer an initial FREE 20 minute phone or Zoom consultation, so you can find out if it is suitable for you.

What happens in a session?

In our first session together, we will have a chat about what brings you to treatment and I’ll take a written case history. During treatment you remain fully clothed and usually lie on your back or side on a treatment couch.

I may make light contact with your head, feet, base of your spine and other areas, encouraging your body to relax and begin to make the changes it needs. Because the body functions as a whole, I may focus on areas other than where your symptoms occur. We will negotiate this together and I’ll only make contact that feels comfortable for you. We might talk occasionally during the session or we can remain quiet.

Most people find sessions deeply relaxing and it is quite common to fall asleep. After a session there may be a short period of adjustment as part of the healing process, and some people find that they become more aware of their symptoms for a short while. After a session it is usual to feel calm, often with a feeling of greater energy and sense of wellbeing.

We will discuss a plan for treatment and how it might help, and will review it regularly. The number of treatments needed varies - some people respond within a few sessions, while chronic problems often need longer.

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy is not intended to replace primary healthcare but to work alongside the service provided by your doctor or healthcare practitioner.

About me

I am an experienced Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist based in West Sussex, providing craniosacral therapy in Haywards Heath, Worthing and surrounding areas.

I decided to train as a biodynamic craniosacral practitioner after experiencing first-hand the profoundly transformative effects of this approach on the health and wellbeing of myself and my family.

I have always been interested in holistic approaches to health as a complement to modern medicine, and have explored a variety of wellbeing practices, including tai chi, chi gung, zen shiatsu, and yoga. I originally trained as a scientist and this, together with my background as a medical writer, has allowed me to draw on a wealth of scientific and medical knowledge which supports and informs my practice.

I completed the 2-year biodynamic craniosacral training in 2005, and continue to deepen my understanding of the work through advanced practitioner trainings, including most recently:
- working with the cardiovascular system (including the vascular effects of Covid and chronic fatigue),
- supporting the flowering of potential in children, adolescents and adults with neurodiversity,
- working with embodied trauma,

I am registered with the Craniosacral Therapy Association (CSTA) and the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC); I abide by their Standards of Ethics and Codes of Conduct and am fully insured. I have regular supervision and undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
